The eBay for Charity team would like to invite you to participate in a community educational experience with one of eBay for Charity’s sellers, Reflections of Trinity.

Reflections of Trinity is a Georgia based non-profit that provides food and basic needs for those living in poverty as well as educational tools, resources and experiences that empower transformation and an improved quality of life.

Schedule:

8:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT: Reflections of Trinity will host a sourcing event where sellers can expect to find items in the following categories:

  • Fashion - Womens, Mens, Children - Clothing and shoes.
  • Pets
  • Toys
  • Books
  • Home Decor

You will be charged $1 per pound and provided garbage bags. You can also bring your own bag - this will be charged by the pound as well. Although you can arrive at any time between 8am - 12pm we suggest you come early while quantities last!

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm EDT: eBay for Charity will host a Lunch & Learn to inform all attendees about the benefits of eBay for Charity, how the program can make positive change in your local communities and how you can get involved to sell through eBay for Charity.

1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EDT: After the Lunch & Learn, Reflections of Trinity will host a Poverty Simulation. within a group, members are asked to purchase, or access through community services, a daily allowance of nutritious food. Each Community Member has a unique scenario that may include having children, a health condition, being a senior citizen, and more. Some community members have access to transportation and nutrition programs and some do not.

Through the simulation experience, participants begin to understand the complexity of hunger and food security issues and explore the impact it can have on individuals and communities. It is a powerful tool to engage, educate and empower the community to take action through advocacy and service.

Objectives of this Simulation

  • To identify major barriers to food security through a discussion-based activity.
  • To explore the relationship between poverty and hunger.
  • To illuminate the impact food insecurity has on health outcomes.
  • To illustrate how to identify foods for a nutritious diet based on nutrition labels.
  • To promote the importance of a healthy diet for optimal community food security.
