Scot holds a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, Business Administration and Psychology from California State University, Chico. He also hold 7 patents. His favorite eBay moment is: It is so hard to pick just one, so I will go with two. (1) The very first time I met a seller who had lost their “trained career” due to circumstances beyond their control (in this case severe injury), and turned their focus to eBay as a means to successfully provide for their family from school age, to college tuition. In that moment the full gravity of the responsibility we hold to deliver well for our customers hit home for me. Since that first experience with that seller, I have met so many others of similar circumstance – nothing is more humbling and motivating. (2) As an active seller on the platform, I sell a lot of items – most that I ship, some via local pick up. One item I sold via local pick up was a maternity chair bought by a person local to San Jose, California. As a pick up location, I gave the person the address of eBay’s campus. Unbeknownst to the buyer that I work for eBay, we met in the parking lot and while I was helping load the chair in to the buyer’s car, he happened to look up to see eBay’s logo on the buildings – and asked “Does everybody come here to pick things up?” Turns out it was that person’s first ever eBay purchase. Years later they are now a seller and buyer on eBay. To this day, we keep in touch over email on product ideas / feedback. It’s the connections eBay creates that I love best.
